Study freshwater science through classroom studies, lab research, and innovative hands-on collaborative research projects. This elective will introduce students to the basic limnological concepts, terms, and theories as they relate to the ecological and hydrological factors that influence, maintain, and adversely affect freshwater habitats. This will include the study of freshwater habitats for salmonids that inhabit South Central Alaska. The course objectives include developing in each student an understanding and concern for local, state, and national water quality issues, watersheds, and limnology.
MathScape is a comprehensive, middle grades mathematics program. The Standards aim to promote mathematical literacy, including an ability to explore, conjecture, reason logically and to use a variety of mathematical methods for problem solving. The MathScape curriculum encourages students to learn mathematics by doing mathematics, by using and connecting mathematical ideas, and by actively constructing their own understanding. The curriculum materials help teachers create an inviting, exploratory classroom in which all students gain mathematical power.
In this course, students will learn to think mathematically, investigate, explore, question and discover important mathematical concepts. Our textbook is Gateways to Algebra and Geometry; an integrated approach.
